An Act relating to motor vehicles; amending 47 O.S.1961,
§ 22.4(b) (1), to require lettered prefix designations ac-
cording to county of registration on automobile and farm
truck license plates; fixing effective date; and declaring an
emergency.
Be it enacted by the People of the State of Oklahoma:
Section 1. 47 O.S.1961, § 22.4 (b) (1), is hereby amended to read as
follows:
§ 22.4 Certificate of registration-Number plate-Form-Display-
Certificate or photostatic copy to be carried-Seizure of vehicle
(b) (1) License plates for automobile and farm truck registrations
shall contain only the name of the State, the year of registry and, for
purposes of registry, no more than six characters, including two prefix
letters and one to four numbers. Counties of registry shall be identified
by using the first letter of the county name in combination with one other
letter, with the exception of Oklahoma and Tulsa Counties. When vehicle
registrations within any county exceed 9,999, provision shall be made for
the issuance of additional series of license plates commensurate with
hereinafter allotted county prefix designation letters. The following
county prefix designations and numbering combinations shall be used.
If additional prefix designations and numbering combinations shall be
required, the Oklahoma Tax Commission is hereby authorized to provide
for such additions, except that the letter "Q" shall not be used in any
prefix designations nor shall duplicate prefix designations be assigned to
different counties.

(b) (2) All plates shall be six Inches in height by twelve inches In
width unless otherwise prescribed by the Tax Commission:
(3) Prefix letters used on automobile license plates shall be modified
Bureau of Public Roads Series B, and shall be three inches high, one
and one-half inches wide, and five-sixteenth inch stroke width:
(4) Numbers used on license plates shall be modified Bureau of Public
Roads Series B, and shall be two and three-fourths inches high, one and
one-fourth inches wide, and of five-sixteenth inch stroke width:
(5) There shall be a three-eighth inch horizontal spacing between the
characters on the license plates and a one and one-eighth Inches horizontal
space between the last prefix letter and the first number, which space
shall include a dash:
(6) The state, name and year number shall be in characters one inch
high.
(7) Provided that the words "Oklahoma", and "Farm Truck", or
abbreviations thereof, and the size, spacing, and the year of registry on
farm truck license plates, shall be as prescribed by the Commission.
Section 2. Effective date
The provisions of this Act shall be effective starting with the 1965
license plates.
