ACTS OF THE TWENTY-FOURTH LEGISLATURE
CHAPTER 2-Election Boards.
SENATE BILL NO. 139.
AN  ACT  relating to elections; fixing  the compensation of the Secretary  of the County  Election Board;
amending 26 0. S. 1951 § 24a; and declaring an emergency.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
Section 1. County Election Board-Secretary-Secretary of State Election
Board-Compensation and Expenses-Appointment and Compensation of Cleri-
cal Help. 26 0. S. 1951 §24a is hereby amended to read as follows:
§ 24a. County Election Board-Secretary-Secretary of State Election
Board-Compensation and Expenses-Appointment and Compensation of Cleri-
cal Help. The members of the County Election Board shall be allowed Five
Dollars ($5.00) per day for the time they are actually engaged in the performance
of their duties; and five cents (.050) per mile in going to and from meetings;
provided that, when the meeting of the County Election Board is for a longer
period than one (1) day, the members shall be entitled to receive mileage for
only one (1) trip to the meeting and one (1) return trip to their residence.
Provided, however, that in no event shall they be allowed pay for more than
thirty (30) days in one fiscal year, and the Secretary of the Board shall, in
addition to said per diem, be allowed Four Hundred Twenty Dollars ($420.00)
per annum compensation for keeping the records in counties with Fifteen
Thousand (15,000) population or less, and in counties with greater population
the Secretary of the Board shall receive an additional Fifty Dollars ($50.00)
per annum for every Five Thousand (5,000) additional population or major
fraction thereof. Provided, however, in counties having a population of Sixty-
two Thousand (62,000) or more according to the Federal Decennial Census of
1950, or any subsequent Federal Census, the Secretary of the County Election
Board shall receive as compensation for his services the sum of Three Thousand
Six Hundred Dollars ($3,600.00) per annum, payable monthly. The County
Election Board shall have the authority to employ clerical help to assist the
Board in the performance of its duties. The compensation of such clerical
help shall be paid by the county from appropriations made and approved for
such purpose. The Secretary of the State Election Board shall receive as com-
pensation for his services the sum of Seven Thousand Two Hundred Dollars
($7,200.00) per annum, payable monthly, out of the State Treasury upon war-
rants issued by the State Auditor. Whenever it shall become necessary for the
Secretary of the State Election Board to perform official duties away from the
State Capitol, he shall be entitled to receive his actual and necessary traveling
expenses. All salaries, per diem, fees and expenses under this Section, except
as otherwise specifically provided herein, shall be an obligation of the State of
Oklahoma, and shall be paid by the State Auditor upon proper vouchers ap-
proved by the Secretary of the State Election Board.
NOTE: Amended by S. B. 448 and H. B. 1190.
Section 2. Counties With Pop. in Excess of 200,000-Additional Compensa-
tion. Providing in counties having a population of Two Hundred Thousand
(200,000) or more, the Secretary of the County Election Board, who is also ex
officio County Registrar, shall receive additional fees provided for by law.
